The North American singer apologized by telephone to Gilberto Gil; the agreement was confirmed by the singer’s advisors
The rapper Tyler the Creator will compensate Gilberto Gil with 50 thousand dollars (approximately R$ 246 thousand) for the use of sections of the track Double meaning, by Gilberto Gil, without authorization. The agreement was confirmed at Estadao from Gil’s consultants this Thursday the 14th.
Tyler had used a snippet of the song for an advertising campaign for his clothing and accessories brand, Golf Le Fleur, released on the 6th. Double meaning plays for over 3 minutes in the commercial.
On Wednesday 13th Gilberto Gil and his daughter Flora Gil released a note informing them that the rapper had even called the singer to apologise. However, they considered it “serious” that the video continued to be available on the platforms.
After the agreement, the commercial continues to be published on the artist’s social networks. Check it out below:

The rapper, who says he is a fan of Gilberto Gil, has already called him to try to resolve the issue and apologized for having used the song without official authorization.
The video has not yet been removed from the platforms and remains available, which is serious.”
The version of Double meaning in the voice of Tetê da Bahia was the soundtrack of the telenovela Cloth idols, from TV Tupi. Gil only recorded his version in 1973, for an unfinished album, Cidade do Salvador. He subsequently never recorded it again, making the song rare in his repertoire.
