Spotify CEO “should be taken down and shot,” says Dee Snider

Twisted Sister vocalist commented on the profit problems that artists currently have with digital platforms – especially Spotify

Dee Snidervocalist of Twisted Sistersaid that the executive of Spotify “should be taken down and shot” in a recent rant about the audio platform CEO, Daniel Ekfor unfairly compensating artists, as transcribed by Blabbermouth. The comment was made in a new interview for the YouTube podcast The Jeremy White Show.

In recent years, Spotify has been the target of criticism for several reasons, including artists’ participation in the platform’s profits. The initial criticism of Snider referred to a widely publicized interview in 2020, in which Ek said that “you can’t record music once every three or four years and think that will be enough” (via consequences.net).

That Spotify guy… [Daniel Ek, CEO da plataforma] he should be taken out and shot. When he heard that artists were complaining about how little we were paid, his response was ‘make more music’ – as if we were producing cans of Coca-Cola. Enough [aumentar] the production. [É] an insult and belittlement.”

Although Snider was being sarcastic in his use of words, his general sentiment echoes that of many artists who feel they are being ignored by the platform. In the conversation, the musician also commented on the almost zero profit he obtains from Spotify with your songs Twisted Sister.

Licensing is the last godsend, the last oasis where you can actually make some money. Steven Spielberg he chose ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ for the soundtrack of Player No. 1 (2018). Thank you God because I’m not getting anything from Spotify.”
