Amy Winehouse’s father is suing the singer’s friends for R$4.5 million

Mitch Winehouse, father of the late singer Amy Winehouse, has launched legal proceedings against two of the artist’s friends. He is seeking the sum of £732,000 (approximately R$4.5 million), claiming that Naomi Parry and Catriona Gourlay profited from the sale of Amy’s personal assets at auction. The information was released by the British newspaper Daily Mail.

As administrator of Amy’s estate, Mitch says Naomi and Catriona sent “several items of Amy’s personal property” to two auctions held in 2021 and this year. He claims that the defendants sold the items, converting the singer’s property for their “own use”. Mitch demands £534,000 (R$3.2 million) from Naomi and £198,000 (R$1.2 million) from Catriona, the latter allegedly being Amy’s lover.

press release from Amy Winehouse’s estate

In November, the Amy Winehouse Estate released a statement reporting that items from the singer’s life and career had been donated in 2021, with 30% of the proceeds going to the Amy Winehouse Foundation. The statement notes that “two individuals sold multiple items at that auction and kept the proceeds: the items were all related to Amy. This year they auctioned multiple items related to Amy and together the two auctions generated sums six figures each.” . The estate, faced with a lack of satisfactory answers as to how the items came into Naomi and Catriona’s possession, chose to initiate legal proceedings.

Amy Winehouse died in 2011 at the age of 27 due to alcohol poisoning. He will turn 40 in September 2024, so the year will be marked by numerous celebrations, including the release of the biopic “Back to Black” – written by Matt Greenhalgh and directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, who worked together on another musical biopic, “The Boy from Liverpool” (2009), about John Lennon’s youth.
