The hit composed by Taylor Swift in less than 10 minutes, according to partner

Aaron Dessner, who worked with the singer on recent albums, defined her as “one of the greatest songwriters of all time”

The skills of Taylor Swift As a composer, they are often highlighted as one of the greatest assets of her career. While several other current pop artists choose to perform songs created by other people, the American is responsible for developing her own works; at most, working with co-authors.

One of them is Aaron Dessnerguitarist of The National. The two worked together on the singer’s most recent albums, Folklore It is Evermoreboth released in 2020.

In an interview with People, Dessner praised Swift’s talent as a songwriter. Initially, he commented on the partner’s greatest strengths in this role.

“I think Taylor is one of the greatest songwriters of all time. I love the sense of belonging created in Taylor’s music, where joy, overcoming adversity, destroying patriarchal structures and celebrating diversity are such prevalent themes.”

Then, Aaron surprised by revealing that one of the singer’s recent hits was composed by her in just 10 minutes. Its about “Willow”track that opens the album Evermore.

“When I sent Taylor the musical portion of our song ‘Willow,’ I think she wrote the entire song from start to finish in less than 10 minutes and sent it back to me. It was like an earthquake. So Taylor said, ‘I think we’re making another record.'”

Taylor Swift’s perfect pop album

Also during the interview, Aaron Dessner celebrated Taylor Swift’s work on an album that doesn’t feature him: 1989. Released in 2014, the album features songs such as “Shake It Off”, “Bad Blood” and “Blank Space”. And for The National’s guitarist, this is the “perfect pop record”.

“I think 1989 is the perfect pop record and I used to have a lot of fun listening to it. I was drawn to hearing ‘Blank Space’ on the radio and felt it was an impossibly perfect pop song. As soon as I heard the entire record, I remember feeling like Taylor was some kind of incredibly rare unicorn of a singer-songwriter.”

Other talents

It wasn’t just Taylor Swift’s skill as a songwriter that Aaron Dessner spoke about in an interview with People. The guitarist also discussed the singer’s live performance, whose current shows last up to three hours.

“Taylor is the hardest working artist I have ever met. She is involved in all aspects of writing and producing her music and has an incredible attention span and focus on details. And she never stops writing songs. The world has seen her play 44 songs a night on tour, playing for over three hours. She makes it look easy, but it really is an incredible feat of endurance.”

A curious comparison was made by Dessner: he said that Swift is almost like Bruce Springsteen with regards to the duration of their shows. Interestingly, Taylor and Bruce have been compared on other occasions due to their songwriting style.

“It’s hard to think of an example of someone who matches that kind of production, except maybe Bruce Springsteen, but he doesn’t need to cover as much ground as Taylor. Likewise, I spent a lot of time with her and never saw anyone serve her. When I stayed at her house, Taylor herself prepared breakfast and dinner for everyone. She is legitimately a very down-to-earth, hard-working person.”
