New Paris street will open on January 8th, when David Bowie would have turned 77
A street in Paris will be opened next week named after David Bowie. In 2020, the then mayor Jérôme Coumet revealed that he planned the move due to the singer’s “strong bond with the city of lights” (via NME). Coumet is reportedly a big fan of the artist.
Rue David Bowie will open next Monday, the 8th — the date on which the rock chameleon would have his birthday — and will be a new road near the Austerlitz train station. In other words, no street was renamed to make room for the artist.
To celebrate the opening of the new street, there will be a party at the Salle des Fetes on the same day. Photographs and paintings related to Bowie will also be exhibited at Galerie Athéna until January 14th.
The United Kingdom, where the owner of the hit “Space Oddity” was born, was left behind and still does not have any similar tribute to Bowie In London.
