The evening also featured a performance by American rapper CeeLo Green and a real show by Iza and Liniker; see what it was like
The first day of Salvador Summer Festival 2024 demonstrated that the event, a January tradition in the capital of Bahia now in its 25th edition, wants to be included in the calendar of the main festivals music from the country.
Compared to the 2023 edition, the Summer Festival has grown in terms of activations – read: brands that sponsor and set up promotional spaces. Although still smaller in scale, the festival has taken on the style of other major events, such as The Town, which debuted in Sao Paulo in 2023.
Another novelty in this sense was the assembly of two separate stages – the previous year they were arranged next to each other -, allowing the public to move more within the Salvador Exhibition Park, where the festival takes place.
From an artistic point of view, the attention was focused, once again, on large gatherings, in ‘invite’ style, a novelty introduced from 2023 by artistic director Zé Ricardo.
He himself admitted, in a conversation with the press, that the festival is in a moment of transition, not only due to the strengthening of the Bahia music scene, but also due to the challenge of being less regional and opening up to the international market. The presence of the American rapper CeeLo Green, although he was not the first foreign artist to perform in these 25 years, is an example of this.
Subsequently, the Estadao shows the highlights of the first day of the Summer Festival in Salvador.
Iza and Liniker have the exact date
Second show of the evening, after the meeting of MC Cabelinho and TZ da Coronel, ‘Iza Chama Liniker’ was worth the duet in Is not she Lovely?a Stevie Wonder hit.
Liniker, in fact, was very well received by the public. They also sang together Child 95with a tone that left Iza expressed vocally.
Additionally, Iza performed her usual less brilliant show at The Town. But she did well in hits like Lucky charm AND Faith in Maluca.
BaianaSystem, Carlinhos Brown and the pulsating music of Bahia and Latin America
“Into the open veins of Latin America,” as the song says South American from the Bahian group BaianaSystemaccording to an expression borrowed from Eduardo Galeano, there are injustices, but also a lot of music.
This is what the band led by Russo Passapusso showed alongside Carlinhos Brown on the stage of the Summer Festival. A meeting between Afro-Latin sounds, which both artists have always been able to manage very well. After all, samba-reggae, born in the streets of Salvador, has had an undeniable influence on almost everything done in Bahia since the mid-1980s.
Never before heard versions of the bolero fit within this conception Quiz, quiz, quiz and the classic In Baixa do Sapateiroby Ary Barroso, as well as famous pieces from the repertoire of Baiana and Brown.
Titled “Paredão Patuscada”, the show repeated in front of the audience something that happened last year, when Baiana joined Olodum: a collective delirium triggered by the irresistible mix of current Baiana music with its ancestors.
Baiana, in fact, has long proven to be one of the most creative groups in Baiana music. There is no similarity to the Russo class. They break, or hit, when they go on stage with their electrified Bahian pop, original and far from any formula.
The same happens with Brown, a musician always open to new things and experimentation, without fear of making mistakes or exposing his musical beliefs – something that has already caused him trouble.
Now we just have to wait and see what BaianaSystem intends to present in the 2025 edition of the festival.
Ivete Sangalo lifts the audience and celebrates success Maceding
In a costume that resembled Timbalada’s body paint, Ivete he went on stage with a band a little different than usual, with a timbral circle that gave the percussive tone to his new success, Macedinga song he released together with Ludmilla and which emerged as one of Carnival’s hits.
In addition to his successes, among these, Party, Great luck AND VigilIvete paid homage to Bahian music by singing hits such as Pharaohknown by the voice of Margareth Menezes, and Black Pearl, by Daniela Mercurio. It’s not for nothing that he titled the presentation “Bahia é um Luxo”.
With the audience in hand, the singer asked for respect for blacks and the culture of Bahia. Celebrating 30 years of career and 25 years of Summer Festival, she said that “her body feels itchy as if she’s only been in her career for six months.”
She joked that she was the “owner” of the Festival and explored the runway that brought her into the audience like no other. Twice she knelt down to kiss fans. Pure charisma.
There are those who complain that Ivete doesn’t change his repertoire. She nor she can do it. Fans want just that: to hear her hits, jump in and see the singer lead the party, something she does like few artists in the country.
