We’re just a few weeks away from the second anniversary of the release of his latest acclaimed album Paint and timepresents the Uruguayan artist Jorge Drexler Turn it over, the last link of this compositional period. The single, now available on digital platforms via Sony Music, is a recovered song, discarded from the album; one of the first to be composed and produced, which ended up being excluded from the ten songs Paint and time.
“I started writing the first drafts of ‘Derrumbe’ in January 2020, just before the pandemic. It was one of the first ideas I had for a new album and it remained unfinished for over a year, until Diego Luna called me asking If I could he would have a song for a series he had written and was directing.”explains drexler. “The series was called ‘Todo va a salir bien’ and it was about a couple with a daughter who saw how their relationship was completely falling apart… and I remembered those sketches that I had saved. With the series in mind , I sat down until I finished the lyrics and the song, and when it was ready I called Rafa Arcaute and Fede Vindver to see if they wanted to produce it. We did it remotely, like so many other things in those strange times: I sent them the tracks of guitar and voice and they added the rest. Rafa and Fede are two stars of contemporary production and what they gave us left us amazed, really. With Campi we refined it and it became part of the album project.”
And he concludes: “On the last day of mixing, we decided not to include it in ‘Tinta y Tiempo’ because we realized that it had its own dark theme, different from the other songs, and that it would be better on its own. We kept it very carefully and now that we’re closing the life cycle of the ‘Tinta y Tiempo’ song, we thought it was finally time to showcase it.”
Turn it overproduced by Rafa Arcaute AND Federico Vindvertogether with drexler, comes in the form of a great little song. Small in form, lasting just over two minutes, with a focus on guitar and vocals; but as big as anything that comes out of your imagination. It bears the mark of the more classic Drexler universe.
Here he enumerates and describes the breakup of a relationshipgoing through the most everyday elements.
