Dickinson was angry with a fan who lit a flare during an Iron Maiden show in Greece
Bruce Dickinson admitted that he “lost his temper” when he called a fan a “dick in the ass” for taking a flare to a concert. Iron Maiden in Greece, in July 2022. The vocalist was singing “‘The Number Of The Beast” when he shouted, after the verse of the song that says “What did I see?”: “A cuckold with a f*cking flare”.
“The cuckold with the f*cking flare, I have to sing up here,” he continued. “You f*cking dick in the ass. You Greek cuckold. That’s right. I have to sing, dammit. Alright. F*ck you.”
Dickinson reflected on the incident in an interview with Rock Hard Greece (via NME): “Ah, the guy swinging the thing and everything. You know what? I probably got his nationality wrong. I just lost my patience.”
“This activity that a very small minority of people engage in is so selfish and disturbing. They think it’s really cool. Actually, it’s not about the band. It’s not about the public. It’s about them drawing attention only to themselves and harming the people around them who have this thing, this extremely toxic thing flying around.”
Of course, if you happen to be asthmatic, if you don’t have any lung problems, ‘Oh, we don’t care about them. Let’s just fill the place with smoke, because it makes me feel important’, is their attitude. It just bores me. Anyway, yes, I lost my patience. I shouldn’t have called him a Greek cuckold.
