Paul McCartney’s official website announced this week that a historic bass guitar by the artist has been found after 52 years of disappearance. The musical instrument, used in the Beatles’ hit songs, was stolen in 1972.
The 1961 bass was recovered following a global movement organized by enthusiasts and experts, “The Lost Bass Project”, created last year in an attempt to locate the artist’s special object.
The Höfner 500/1 model instrument was purchased by Paul for 37 US dollars, in a shop in Hamburg, Germany. “This is the bass that McCartney played in Hamburg in 1961, at the Cavern in Liverpool and on early Abbey Road recordings – it fueled Beatlemania and shaped the sound of the modern world,” the lawsuit reads. “Paul is extremely grateful to everyone involved.”
