The Sotaques da Accordion Brasileira Festival celebrates the variety of the instrument

“It is still seen as a regional tool, but it is urbanizing, participating in different aspects”, underlines Toninho Ferragutti, curator of the event in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais.

or Accents of the 2022 Brazilian Accordion Festival brings together this weekend the national variety related to the instrument – also known as harmonica, accordion, among others – in the city of Belo Horizonte. There are free concerts at Praça Santa Tereza (Duque de Caxias), at 6pm this Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th.

There will be workshops and lessons on the subject. Toninho Ferragutti takes care of the event. “The accordion is part of the Brazilian musical soul. It helps to write and illuminate popular music from different regions of Brazil,” he says.

In addition to their own repertoire, each accordionist attending the event will play at least one classic of Luiz Gonzaga. “It was and is a milestone in Brazilian popular music, which must be remembered and serve as an inspiration for all future generations,” says Ferragutti.

The project is sponsored by the Vale Cultural Institute, through the federal culture incentive law, and the idea is that it becomes annual and can vary from city to Minas Gerais first, and then also from state.
