Tom Hanks says Nora Ephron did something different with her preparation that separated her from Steven Spielberg, Clint Eastwood and the directors she worked with.

Tom Hanks is one of most beloved actors of all time and you will probably agree that much of the credit for his work goes to all the fantastic directors he has worked with during his 40+ year career. To name but a few great hits, she has worked with Ron Howard, Penny Marshall, Robert Zemeckis, Steven Spielberg, Sam Mendes, the Wachowskis and Clint Eastwood. but it’s up to you Don’t sleep in Seattle Yes You have an email the director, Nora Ephron, who called the director with “the strongest vision of all”.

when Tom Hanks met the guys from Gossipify ReelBlend podcast to talk about his latest film, Elvis, and delving into her legendary career, co-host Jake Hamilton began citing the impressive list of directors who have “very strong visions,” before Hanks shared some deep thoughts about the late Nora Ephron and how she worked. The actor said this:

Do you know who had the strongest vision of all? Nora Efron. Nora Ephron would not tolerate disagreement. Nora, in the two films I did with her, we literally rehearsed where you shoot the set and have the props and rehearse with the words, with the dialogue that day for two weeks before leaving. And I was like, ‘Nora, you know we make these things up as we go,’ and she said ‘if we don’t know exactly what we’re going to do on the day we shoot it in six weeks, we’re going to waste time.’ And I said, “I get it, boss,” and so we walked in, ready to go.

Tom Hanks worked together with Nora Ephron Meg Ryan as a co-star in 1993 Don’t sleep in Seattle then a few years later they got together for 1998 You have an email. Both films are considered in between best romantic comedies of all time And, with these recent comments, it’s even easier to see why. As Hanks shared, he would rehearse long before shooting with very specific environments to reflect the set they would interact with when the cameras finally started rolling.

When it comes to the technicalities of cinema, we often pay more attention to how it’s done in big movies, perhaps like star movies. Save Private Ryan, apollo 13 Yes Stain. But the two-time Oscar winner’s insider knowledge is indicative of the skill (and love) it takes to make two romantic comedies that are not only incredibly loved, but likely seen in homes several times compared to previous films.

Nora Ephron wrote and directed a number of great films over the course of her career, before dying in 2012 at the age of 71, but her work with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan remains absolutely iconic of the genre for many years later. And of course, when Harry met Sallywho paired Ryan with Billy Crystal, is another great classic.
