Pop singer revealed to presenter Jimmy Kimmel that the grunge icon was her biggest idol as a child, complete with a haircut inspired by Cobain
Kurt Cobain was the biggest musical influence on Selena Gomez. The statement came from the singer herself in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel in the program Jimmy Kimmel Livelast Friday (23).
Asked by the presenter who her childhood idol would be, the 31-year-old artist surprised by pointing out the frontman of Nirvana as your main reference.
After recording a picture with a fan of hers, Selena was asked by Kimmel: “Who was your Selena Gomez? Have you ever been obsessed with anyone?” To which the pop star replied: “Yes. Kurt Cobain.” Watch below:
The answer came as a surprise, not only because it was a rock reference, but also because of Selena’s age, who was born just two years before Kurt’s suicide in 1994. Regarding how Cobain came into her life, the singer responded:
“I think because of my mom, obviously, who played all kinds of music for me growing up.”
Selena even said that her obsession went further, including watching Kurt’s interviews repeatedly. According to the singer, she watched a documentary about the artist a dozen times.
“I ended up becoming obsessed with him, I dyed and cut my hair like his. I know him a little too much,” she said.
