K-Pop: 4 best-selling groups in 2023, says IFPI

Last Tuesday (27th), the IFPI released two lists: one with the best-selling and most-streamed albums in 2023 and another with the best-selling artists, and K-Pop is on both.

In second place in the ranking of best-selling artists we find Seventeen, followed by Stray Kids. Tomorrow X Together and NewJeans are ranked seventh and eighth respectively.

It is worth noting that the album FML since seventeen brought the group its first IFPI Global Charts award. The album, released in April 2023, was the most pre-ordered in K-Pop history and debuted at number one in South Korea, as well as reaching number one in Japan and appearing in the Top 5 in France and the United States. The group also premiered their follow-up album, SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN released in October, it reached number eight on the IFPI Global Albums Chart.

South Korean artists were responsible for five of the top 10 albums on the IFPI Global Albums chart, representing the best global chart performance ever for K-Pop. Stray Kids also saw two albums reach the Top 10, with 5 STARS (#2) e ROCK STAR (#9). NCT DREAM made their first appearance with ISTJ entering at number 6 and there were also debut appearances by K-Pop artists ZEROBASEONE and IVE at number 18 and number 20. After huge global success with BTS, Jung Kook made his first solo appearance with the his album golden reaching 14th position.
