One of the living legends of heavy metal, vocalist developed an association between the animal and musical world that he considers perfect
It’s not easy to associate an animal with an entire musical genre, with all its differences. Even so, Rob Halford has an association that he considers perfect.
The vocalist of Judas Priestone of the most important bands in the history of heavy metal, reflected in a radio interview KLAQ 95.5 FM (via Blabbermouth) about another of his passions: cats. For him, pussies are the perfect representation of the idea that guides rock and roll.
The topic started after the interviewer asked why he posts so many photos on social media wearing t-shirts related to kittens. Halford began by saying:
“I think cats are a perfect choice because they are fiercely independent. I love this kind of thing where you think you own your cat, but actually your cat owns you (laughs).”
Then, he made the connection between felines and rock, citing that both are diverse, independent and beautiful the way they are. O “Metal God”as he is called, declared:
“I love the variety of different types of cats. Cats are like rock and roll. They all come from different perspectives. There are differences between a Persian cat, a ginger cat or a naked cat, but they are all great and beautiful. And I love the independence that a cat constantly shows.”
Relationship with pets
Rob Halford Get involved with the animal cause, not just by having pets. The vocalist of Judas Priest declared support for a NGO, Kitten Rescuewhich, as the name suggests, rescues abandoned kittens in Los Angeles, in the United States, and looks for a home for them.
“Having any animal in your life is a blessing. Cats and dogs become your children. This is how it should be, as they are members of your family. […] I’m connected to Kitten Rescue In Los Angeles. The women there do a wonderful job. […] Anyone who truly cares for animals should be recognized.”
Cats and heavy metal
In 2020, Rob Halford was invited to explain the relationship between cats and heavy metal during an interview with the podcast Snakes & Fire. At the time, she used the same argument: felines are independent, a very strong feeling in the heavy music segment.
“I think the reason we like them in our metal community is because they are independent. You think you know your cat, but the cat knows you better than you know yourself. And they are so full of personality! They knock things off the shelf and look at you as if to say, ‘look what I can do’. But I love them for it. They are beautiful creatures.”
