And the problem was, before the first season, before I even shot the pilot, I went to the mayor and said, “Look, this could be any city on the Rust Belt.” I could organize it in Philadelphia, St. Louis, Cleveland … it just has to be a post-industrial city facing the same problems. ‘ In fact, I went to lunch with him to talk about it. And he said to me, ‘No, no, no, bring it here.’ We want television (work). ‘ I said, ‘Are you sure?’ Yes of course. Cut to a year and a half later, he is running for governor, or wanted to run for governor at the time. And he viewed this program as so direct that he strongly criticized the war on drugs as an obstacle. I don’t know what he wanted us to do. He basically wanted us to stop.
