MC Daleste: let’s remember the case of the funk player murdered on stage

The investigations ended without definitive answers on the perpetrators of the crime

One of the pioneers of the so-called “funk ostentation”, Daniel Pelegrini, known as MC Daleste, died on stage at the age of 20. The crime occurred in Campinasinside São Paulo, in July 2013.

More than a decade later, police have no answers about who committed the shooting. Globoplay is on air with the documentary series MC Daleste – They killed poor Locowhich reveals the details of the crime.

Remember the case

MC Daleste was the target of a gun attack while performing at a June party in the interior of Sao Paulo. The fatal shot landed in his chest. Although he was taken by friends and family to Paulínia Municipal Hospital, intubated and taken to the operating table, Daleste did not survive his injuries.

The crime was recorded both by fans following the show and by collaborators who were on stage. The images show the moment he is hit and falls on stage during the show. Despite recordings from multiple angles, police were unable to identify the person who fired the fatal shot.

According to the Institute of Criminalistics, the shots that killed the MC were fired at a distance of 40 meters, from a house under construction at the time. In addition to the fatal shot, which hit the lung, stomach and liver, a few minutes earlier another shot had grazed the singer’s right armpit, even as the show continued.

At the time, the hypotheses elaborated by the police revolved around a crime of passion, an idea denied by the family and a disagreement with the entertainment contracting company. None of the lines of inquiry produced sufficient evidence to continue with the investigation.

According to information provided at the time by the Military Police, a red vehicle without an identification plate left the scene with an armed individual, but no further information was obtained during the investigation.

The investigation into the crime was moved to the capital, under the responsibility of the Department of Homicide and Personal Protection (DHPP) in 2014. Despite the change, the investigation was closed without conclusion two years later, in June 2016, by the Security Secretariat Public (SSP).

MC Daleste’s family even asked for the investigation to be reopened in 2020, but the request was not accepted due to a lack of information that could be relevant to the case.
