Few villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe stick around for more than one movie, but Tom Hiddleston’s Loki is a big exception. The character was first introduced in Kenneth Branagh. Thorand his instant popularity led him to be part of many other blockbusters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Thor: RagnarokYes Avengers: Infinity War. Currently, Loki is the central character of his ongoing series on Disney + … but a notable series will end very soon: having appeared in all previous series. Thor film, in which Hiddleston does not appear Thor: love and thunder.
Given the history between Hiddleston and Thor Chris Hemsworth, the two men who played the brothers on screen for nearly a full decade, you’d think there would be strong emotions to share about the situation, but based on my interview with the Marvel star this weekend, of course that’s about it. it’s not the case.
I interviewed Chris Hemsworth and writer / director Taika Waititi late last week on press day. Thor: love and thunder, and both men got a little silly when I brought up the fact that Tom Hiddleston wasn’t in the new movie. Jokingly, Hemsworth explained that Loki isn’t in Marvel’s new blockbuster because his character died in. Avengers: Infinity War, but because Hiddleston personally didn’t want to be in a production with people he hated. Hemsworth said,
He didn’t want to get involved. He said, “I hate you all, and me in particular,” and I thought, it’s a shame. And this is all. I mean, how many times can we kill him?
Seriously, Chris Hemsworth is right about that. Between Loki falling into thin air from the broken rainbow bridge Thorhis fake death Thor: The Dark Worldand his execution at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity WarTom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief is “dead” and resurrected multiple times in the canon of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and is bringing it back for Thor: love and thunder in no way would it make sense (plus it would potentially devalue his heroic moment in the opening scene of the penultimate Avengers movie).
It is possible that some sort of scheme was devised that saw the Loki variant of the Loki The Disney + series makes an appearance … but she’s probably too busy dealing with the fallout from the events in the show’s first season finale to wade through timelines and get involved in the storyline of Thor: love and thunder.
Tom Hiddleston fans will have to emotionally deal with the fact that Loki will not appear in the last one Thor movie, but at least the actor is still friends with Chris Hemsworth and Taika Waititi? Good…
Chris Hemsworth: We love Tom. We love Tom. Yes, but he is dead. Not him, but Loki’s character.
Taika Waititi: No, no, he just died for us.
Chris Hemsworth: Obviously he died for us, as far as friendship is concerned.
Loki fans can watch season 1 of the character solo show with a Disney + subscription now (season 2 is coming) and those waiting for the release of Thor: love and thunder I don’t have much else to do. The film, starring Natalie Portman, Christian Bale and Tessa Thompson as well as Chris Hemsworth and Taika Waititi, will hit theaters in less than two weeks, on July 8 (Tickets are on sale now (opens in a new tab) ).
