Lollapalooza 2024: In a confusing show, Kings of Leon causes audience boredom, but the ending is exciting

The band, playing in place of Paramore, performed sixth in Brazil; the performances remained lukewarm, but had moments of energy in the shots

The Lollapalooza stage isn’t exactly new to the King of Leon. To date, Saturday 22nd, after playing on the Budweiser Stage of the event, the band can say that they have already played six times in Brazil.

Also in this case the group has not been confirmed in the festival line-up. They arrived to replace Paramore, highly anticipated among the attractions, but who canceled their performance in January.

Many might even think that a coincidence in the band’s new presence could be, in a certain sense, a repair. The last time they were in Brazil, at Lolla 2019, Kings of Leon were confirmed after the lineup was announced – an action in response to complaints about the trio Tribalistas as the main attraction of one of the days.

At the time the American group played late on Saturday night. Marisa Monte, Carlinhos Brown and Arnaldo Antunes sang on Friday, in front of the Arctic Monkeys.

Now, Kings of Leon performed on the exact day that there was the only Brazilian headliner at the festival. Immediately after the band, the event welcomes Titãs, on the Encontro tour, which will also see Arnaldo Antunes on stage.

The group chose to do a family show (excuse the pun: the band is made up of members of the same family). Known for maintaining a low-key atmosphere without major interactions, the band performed a stiff show that at times confused the audience.

To begin with they opted for a risky choice: they played the latest single released, mustang, like the first in the lineup. Apparently, this didn’t work for the audience, who looked around, confused, waiting for the band to conquer from the first chords.

Once again, the importance of Caleb Followill’s voice was made clear. He sets the tone and, in most cases, the quality of the group and is responsible for the interactions. The jokes, however, were punctual and at certain moments seemed rehearsed.

The audience was confused, they expected more energy. While some, more faithful, tried their hand at dance steps, others were divided between a mixture of contemplation and boredom.

The band got going Use Somebody, one of the most anticipated, but part of the audience began to disperse to watch Titã on the nearby stage. Fortunately the presentation ended on a high note: with Sex on fire and a fireworks display. It was worth it for those who stayed.
