Franch-Hives Initiative launched in November 2023, with the first franchised cover band shows announced in March 2024

Few groups are as focused on their own brand as The Hiveswhether in relation to the music, clips or the matching costumes. And the Swedish quintet has expanded this concept through a program to promote cover bands.

In an interview with Classic Rockthe vocalist Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist spoke more about the project, dubbed Franch-Hives and part of the band’s effort to remain active and reach as many people as possible. At the time, he revealed that there were franchises in South America.

He said:

“What’s helping us is the franchise system we set up last year where we support cover bands around the world. We send things, money for gasoli and stuff like that. The idea is to have Hives everywhere, all the time. It’s going really well. There are a lot of Hives in South America.”

The Franch-Hives initiative was announced in November 2023, when the band published a call on their social media by cover artists. This is because, according to The Hives, the demand for the group’s shows was too great.

The note states:

“We’ve reached a point where the Hives can no longer meet the public’s demand for shows. This is where you come in. Help us create a world where the Hives play in every city, all the time. Let’s do business and rock’n’roll together.”

The group even provided a website at the time where it was possible to start a Franch-Hives. Unfortunately, the address is no longer active.

The Hives covers tour

The first tour of this cover band project was announced in March 2024, with shows from the projects The B-Hives, The Main Offenders and The Hives Fives in the English cities of Nottingham, Brighton and Manchester. The dates would be the same on which The Hives would also perform in the municipalities — however, the originals did not participate in the tribute events.
