With the enthusiasm of a boy, Brazilian music legend transformed a muddy festival into a dance floor
With more than six decades of career, Gilberto Gil He has already performed on countless stages around the world, but this Sunday, the 24th, was the first time that the artist stepped onto the Lollapalooza Brazil stage.
Without doing badly in front of great international artists, such as Blink 182, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Kings of Leon, Gil filled the lawn at the foot of the Samsung Galaxy Stagethe second biggest of the festival, and made the public forget that, moments before, the concern was trying to avoid the mud puddles formed by the rains of the previous days of the festival.
With the excitement of a boy, Gil came jumping onto the scene, to the sound of “Punk from the Periphery“, and the audience – which continued to grow until not only the lawn, but also the hill in front of the stage was full – sang with the artist. The scene was repeated in “Highlight“, “No, Woman, No Cry” – success of Bob Marley -, “Walk with faith“, “Our people“, “Every Bahian Girl” and many other hits. With “That hug“, made São Paulo sing, at the top of their lungs, how “Rio de Janeiro is still beautiful”.
At one point during the performance, he celebrated the audience, made up mostly of young people, saying that “youth is dominating Brazilian music”. In another, he received shouts of “Gil, I love you” and replied with the poet’s words: “Love is a redemptive substance. It is what gives us the possibility of living and continuing to want to live. Long live love! ” And live Gilberto Gilwhich certainly left many hearts in love on this last day of Lollapalooza Brasil 2024.
