After teasing fans one last time with the release of Some skin typesthe last trace of BBC Radio 1’s hottest recordLast week, Norwegian alt-pop superstar Aurora announced this Thursday (28th) her fourth studio album, What happened to the heart?whose release is scheduled for 7 June for the Universal musicthrough Decca Records. The physical version of the work is now available for pre-sale on UMusic Store.
Additionally, he revealed plans for his tour UK AND Europewith 11 dates between the months of September and October 2024, including one night at Royal Albert HallIn Londonin the day 2nd October.
In April 2022, Aurora read a letter that changed his life. Titled We are Terra’Elait was co-written with indigenous activists and called for a revolution: a collective response to global warming “heal the earth”. They described being connected to the earth”through our hearts” and the earth as “the heart that beats within us”.
The letter took Aurora to consider a question: “What happened to the heart?” (translation of the title of the new album). And so, at the age of 27, the Norwegian artist began studying books on the subject human anatomywanting to understand when and why Western culture has lost touch with the deeper purpose of our most vital organ.
What happened to the heart? it is a journey from weakness to strength, from self-destruction to self-healing. A moving and introspective musical journey that explores the loss of spiritual connection in modern society, the healing power of vulnerability and the call to initiate change through reuniting the heart with politics and personal growth.
The most recent version, the song, was revealed last week Some skin typesdives into the album’s central struggle: vulnerability leads to bleeding, but there’s a need to fight to build some sort of skin.
The singer threw herself into the chaos and wrote this new album during the album tour The gods we can touch, with only one rule: he could only write in unsafe spaces, to build his armor. That meant no forest, where the singer had spent much of her childhood Bergenin Norway, making this album a new era for her.
Traveling the world also gave her the chance to meet women who she describes as modern philosophers who inspired her with their feminine power. In particular, three female tribal leaders Colombia, Brazil AND Argentina.
“There is wisdom in their indigenous values. These women live in the modern world just like us, but still choose to live with kindness,” to observe Aurora.
Describing the new album as “the most personal and cathartic album” who has already written, Aurora adds: “Although its precise function and anatomy were not clearly understood, the heart was considered the center of the soul. Of intuition. Of emotion and intention. Until we decided that these were qualifications of the mind. Emotion dominated by logic. And with the world so corrupted by money, power and selfishness, that you can’t help but wonder, ‘what happened to the heart?'”
Registered in Norway, Germany, London AND Los Angelesthe new album features old and new collaborators coming together AuroraAS Ane Brun, Matias Tellez (girl in red, Maisie Peters), Tom RowlandFrom The chemical brothers, Chris Greatti (Yungblud, Blink-182, Pussy Riot), Dave Hamelin (Beyonce, King Princess and Zara Larsson), among others, but also Magnus Skylstadwhich has accompanied the artist since his first album, All my demons greet me as A Friend.
From haunting folk melodies to pulsating techno beats, each collaborator infuses their own style into the album, adding depth and dimension to the introspective journey of Aurora.
