A big name in country music died in the early hours of this Friday 29th, in the city of Marília (SP).
Singer Sebastiano da Silva, known as Cain, He died at the age of 80, in the early hours of this Friday, the 29th, in Marília, São Paulo. He became an iconic name in country music as part of the duo Abel and Cain.
Sebastião was born on January 20, 1944, in the city of Monte Azul Paulista. While still young he moved to Marília and fell in love with the viola trend and country music.
In 1966 he formed the duo Abel & Cain with his cousin José Vieira. The duo won a national guitar competition and, in the same year, recorded their first LP on vinyl.
Icons of country music, Abel & Cain influenced country musicians such as Daniel, Leonardo, Zezé di Camargo and Luciano. For more than 40 years together, the two have had major hits such as Loving mother AND Cowboy boy.
Sebastião was also elected councilor in the city of Marília, serving on the city council between 1993 and 1996.
After Abel’s death in 2011, Sebastião continued with the “Caim e Amigos” project.
Between 2016 and 2019 he formed the duo Adel and Cain with the musician Addy (Adilson Cândido da Silva). However, Addy died of a heart attack in 2019. As a result, Cain resumed his solo project.
The news was confirmed by Marília municipality in a social media post. “Caim is one of the personalities who contributed to building this love that millions of Brazilians have for authentic roots music, which is why his voice will remain alive in our soul, in the soul of all of our Brazil”, declared the mayor of Marília, Daniel Alonso, in the text.
