Tuyo seeks landscapes in an album that brings a new method: ‘It’s a direction that helped provoke us’

Now with three studio albums with Tuyo, Lio, Lay and Machado released, this Wednesday, 3, Paisagem on digital platforms

Regardless of the situation we find ourselves in, there is always a landscape that surrounds us, keeps us moving forward and that which we imagine in the near and distant futures. Often, this landscape takes a backseat to the various tasks that occur in our daily lives, but it is always good to remember where we are and where we can stop.

It was precisely with this thought that the band Tuyoformed by Lio, Lay It is Axcomposed, produced and released the third studio album of his career, entitled Landscapereleased this Thursday, the 4th. To reach this moment, the trio needed time to reflect on the project.

A few years ago, since the pandemic Covid-19the artists achieved many goals and participated in many projects, such as releasing the album We arrived home alone (2021), nomination to the Latin Grammys 2021 (Best Contemporary Pop Album in Portuguese Language), participation in Primavera Sound Barcelonare-recording of hits by Pitty It is The Rappabetween others.

Even more so as independent artists, needing to find other ways of earning in some cases, the group has always been in a big rush, but everything changed with Landscape, an era in which they are more established and mature than ever. The album came out just over a year ago, before it even had that name.

“It has been a very rich process of time, endless conversations, many friendships… Vhoor, JMZ, Lucas Romeroof the three of us,” he stated Lay in an interview with Rolling Stone Brazil. In this procedure, the band also began to take more risks, such as, for example, in music production.

Furthermore, there was an understanding that, from the first day of production, the trio would not come out with an answer immediately, but each one enjoyed the process because they would be able to say what they wanted to say artistically, what they wanted to communicate.

The fact that we understood this during the process made it more fun, more enjoyable AND calmer in the parts that were supposed to be calm. Obviously chasing the calendar and the things we needed to deliver, but in another way. We hadn’t lived in a space like that to be able to think about what we wanted to say,” he said. Lay.

Second Ax, Landscape can also be described as a “kick for the future” because, after a considerable period of hustle and bustle, Tuyo He was able to stop for a moment to ask himself: “Where are we really going? Let’s take a break.”

“It was a question of method because, in my memories, we really didn’t have answers,” added Lio. “So we decided to make a record: ‘Ah, let’s decide what genre it is.’ F*** gender! There are other conversations to have before that. ‘What are the trends? What are people listening to?’ F*** you, too! I’m the people, what am I listening to? I am also my audience, you know? I’m not a ETzão — sometimes I am —, but we went through a very firm denial, which was risky for us.”

Tuyo Band

In other words, as they grew as a band, Lio, Lay It is Ax they began to meet greater demand and make decisions to transform some processes. Even so, they followed their own method, which has faced some natural artistic changes over the years.

We stick to our method, even if the price we pay for this is not reaching levels and levels of popularity. We are not hypocrites, I want to buy my mother a house, everyone knows that,” he explained. Lio.

With patience to create the Paisagem tracks, the trio made a song camp with the DJ, beatmaker and producer Vhoor. Second Lio, the songs, fruits of dialogues like life in the interior of Minas, were mature. In this way, they were oxygenated, in a way.

“Our ideology is basically all based on the passage of time and what it does on us, on our work,” continued the singer. “We gave up a faster process and connected to the trend to satisfy our own ego, to understand our vanity of being able to stop with some slowness in such a fast-paced moment.”

king time

As Gilberto Gil sings in one of the greatest songs of his career, titled “king time,” time is one of the recurring subjects of Paisagem, in a reflection that permeates the 10 tracks.

“Somehow, we stick to things that we are passionate about and other things that we deny, such as tendencies towards megalomania, hyper-configuration of stages, saturation of what is grand and monumental, and Landscape is placed in another point, at which we turn our audience’s neck for details,” said Lio.

Time also shows a sound evolution of Tuyo, which began to explore the most diverse types of sounds in addition to the characteristic synthesizers and guitars. A new song that proves this experience is “Appease,” made in collaboration with Arthur Verocai.

Tuyo

Not just from Verocaibut the trio had a real selection in the construction of the song in question, as Vhoor It is Lucas It is Matthew Romero. This union involved a search for new timbres mixed with various keyboards, with a few synthesizers, of course.

“It’s a direction that helped provoke us,” he celebrated Lio. “We are an accumulation band, always stacking voices. It’s one of our signatures. In ‘Appease,’ we made choices to go to a more serious region. It’s all about frequency. We made a different reading based on this relationship with Romero, Vhoor It is Verocai.

Having these conversations with other people brought us to new places. ‘Appease‘ has this feeling of familiarity. You already know that region there, our little timbre, but it’s new because it’s another method.

Verocai was not the only special appearance on the band’s third studio album Tuyo. The band also worked with two other singers: Joca, in “Slowly,” It is Luedji Lunain “Landscape.” Both collaborations arose from their friendship, which goes far beyond music.

“Making this record with friends was also really cool,” he explained. Lio. “We exchanged messages and offered comfort to each other. Participations were based on relationships. We usually collaborate and bond later, but on this record we did the opposite. We just call the guys.”

Landscape shows a Tuyo increasingly relevant and confident than ever. With three studio albums in the world, the Curitiba trio once again proved their strength, with complex songs and a unique sound.
