Josh Freese was announced as Foo Fighters’ new drummer in May 2023; he replaced Taylor Hawkins on instrument

Drummer who joined us Foo Fighters after the early death of Taylor Hawkinsdied as a result of an overdose on March 25, 2022, Josh Freese recalled how the invitation from Dave Grohl for him to join the iconic American rock band.

It is worth remembering how Freese was confirmed as the group’s new drummer in May 2023, when Foo Fighters announced tour and production of But Here We Are, 11th studio album. At tribute shows to Hawkinsthe drummer had already performed with the band.

During an interview with Rick Beatothe artist recalled how Grohl contacted him about joining the band near the Christmas 2022. “I was walking my wife and some of our dogs and I thought, ‘Oh, Dave He tried to call me 20 minutes ago,'” he said.

And she said, ‘I know why he’s calling you.’ I was like, ‘Easy. I’m not thinking about that.’ I swear to God, that’s not why I thought [ele ligava]. I say, ‘You know what? He might be having a party New Year. He might be doing a project where he has all those drummer friends of ours who performed [nos shows de tributo].

After the tour, Josh Freese called back to Dave Grohl and, before talking about the future of Foo Fighterstalked about Christmas and their children: “I said, ‘Hey, did you record it?’ He said, ‘Yeah, we recorded a lot of stuff. And I played drums and I’m really happy with the sound. [Estou] very excited about it. And we had a conversation with the drummer. And we want you to be the guy.'”

When he heard the last sentence, Freese it felt like “someone punched me in the stomach.” The shock was so great that he wasn’t “that excited. It was almost like I was out of breath. And I thought, ‘Oh, my God.'”

“I was like, ‘Here we go.’ Because I knew… I had time to think about it and everything,” she continued. “There are times when you think, ‘You know you have to do this, right?’ After being questioned, and being questioned by someone I’ve always respected – not just as a songwriter and singer/guitarist, but as a drummer.”
