“Dark Matter”, the twelfth studio album by the band Pearl Jam, arrived on streaming platforms on Friday (19th) and was preceded by a truly unusual pre-release.
On the 16th, the band promoted the album to be played in cinemas around the world (including Brazil). The fans present had the opportunity to do a sort of old-fashioned audition, with the album played twice: the first time, only with audio, without anything on the screen, so that the proposed immersion was complete, without distractions.
In the second audition, the band presented animated lyric videos so that fans could pay more attention to the “word” of the band, especially Eddie Vedder.
“Dark Matter” also marks the band’s first collaboration with Andrew Watt, a producer who came from pop – he has already made Justin Bieber’s albums – but who in recent times has shown his ease in rock, being responsible for the most recent works of Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop and the Rolling Stones.
Watt said his mission was to encourage the band to look at their brilliant past – particularly the albums “Ten”, “Vs” and “Vitalogy”, which in a way shaped the band’s sound – and bring the energy contained there today. .
The result is an album that, while it cannot be considered the best of the band’s career, puts them back on track, something they had lost with the weak “Gigaton” (2020). There’s room for ballads, experimental songs and good old Pearl Jam, which fans will recognize right away.
