The instrument was also used by George Harrison in the recordings of the album ‘Rubber Soul’
The guitar played by John Lennon on disk Help! launched by Beatles in 1965 it will be auctioned after 50 years of disappearance. The instrument spent all this time forgotten by its owners in an attic in the UK. It is estimated that the sale will reach a value of between 600 and 800 thousand dollars (approximately R$ 3-4 million).
Produced by the German company Framus in the early 1960s, the 12-string Hootenanny guitar appears in the band’s film of the same name, Help!in the presentation of the piece You have to hide your love somewhere else. On the album, the same strings are played by Lennon in the songs It’s only Love AND I just saw the faceas well as the title track.
The instrument was also used by George Harrison in the album recordings Rubber coreof 1965, more precisely on the tracks Norwegian wood AND lass.
Untouched for so long, the guitar is aesthetically preserved, looking the same as when Lennon and Harrison played it. The original case was also saved.
The auction, which will be held at Julien’s Auction on May 29 and 30 at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York (and also online), also announced another object linked to Lennon: the telephone used by the musician in Bed-in for peaceprotests made by him and Yoko Ono against the Vietnam War.
The same auctioneer has already sold other items belonging to the Beatles. In 2015, another Lennon guitar, a Gibson model J-160E, which had been stolen from the musician in the 1960s, sold for $2.41 million. A drum kit used by Ringo Starr was also auctioned off at the institution, reaching $2.2 million.
