Anitta on “Funk Generation”: “Since I’m going to die, I’ll make the best album”

The singer thought she would die after becoming seriously ill, which inspired her to give everything to create her new album

Anitta shared the motivation behind the release of “Funk Generation.” In a press conference this Friday (26/4), the Rio artist, who is experiencing a successful phase on the international scene, explained that a health problem pushed her to create the album: “I was very ill. I had to get a doctor’s appointment, cancer, I felt really bad for a while,” he confessed. Moved by this experience, she decided: “Since I’m about to die, I’ll make the best album of my life.”

He said he started the album remotely, with the help of the producers, while lying in bed unable to do anything. Therefore he guarantees: “This album doesn’t follow the formula of what is successful today, of what is mainstream, it really follows my head”, he explained. “After it was over, I was fine, I did a lot of things, spiritual journeys. I got all that voodoo out of me.”

Brazilian culture and the diversity of funk

“Funk Generation” seeks to showcase the richness and diversity of funk, going beyond the stereotypes generally associated with the genre. Anitta and her team were inspired by different styles of funk: melody, baile de corridor, prohibitão, etc. “Have all kinds of dance, steps, rolls, everything […] I think Brazil likes it so much because it’s our style.”

The singer says she wants to bring Brazilian culture to the world and inspire new generations of artists. “When it’s possible, when a magazine is interested, we ask if they can come to Brazil. I always try to do something like that. And in interviews I keep talking,” Anitta said.

After releasing “Grip” this Friday, he revealed what the next clips will look like, all with Brazilian elements. “The ‘Aceita’ video will come out with Candomblé, the ‘Ahí’ video will have samba schools, if we can get it out. I didn’t just put the beautiful samba woman, I put the old guard… so let people look and take an interest,” he added.

Tour and international career

Focusing on the internationalization of her career, Anitta announced that, for now, there are no plans for shows in Brazil with the new album. The decision, according to her, is due to the domestic public’s lack of willingness to pay higher prices for Brazilian artists. “When it’s an international show, everyone wants to pay zillions,” she said. “We are thinking about how to do it [um grande show no Brasil] to happen. It’s one thing to do small shows like we’re doing in other countries. This larger event takes time and structure, and people really don’t want to pay to attend events like this [com brasileiros]”, he explained.

With a consolidated career in Brazil and great progress in internationalization, Anitta is satisfied and is already thinking about new projects. “I can’t wait to take a break,” she revealed. “And I think the process [de internacionalização] It’s quite complete. I might pass the baton to someone else to continue the work, because I’m super accomplished. It’s wonderful. I already feel like I accomplished everything I needed to accomplish,” the singer added.
