Streaming platform revealed the singer’s tracks most played by Brazilians in the last year – and the first place is surprising
In the countdown for the show Madonna at the Brazilwhich takes place on the beach of Copacabana, Rio de Janeiroin the next day 4The Deezer revealed a ranking of the singer’s 10 most listened to songs by Brazilians on the platform last year. The surprise is that first place went to a song by The Weeknd.
The track in question is “Popular”by the Canadian singer with appearances by Playboi Carti and Madonna. The song was released in June 2023 as part of the official soundtrack for The Idolseries created and starring Abel Tesfaye, real name of The Weeknd. Madonna, who ultimately only contributes vocals to the single, would have been a fundamental element to turn it into a commercial success, with 4 thousand copies sold, in addition to entering the Hot 100 chart on billboard in 43rd position in its opening week.
Recent hit aside, the rest of Madonna’s Top 10 is marked by the singer’s classics. Starting with second position, “The Beautiful Island”a classic with Latin influences and flamenco guitars, released on the artist’s third album, TrueBlue (1986), and later, in 1987, as the fifth and final single from the same album.
The third position is due to “Hung Up”pop-disco anthem from Madonna’s tenth album, Confessions on a Dance Floor (2005). In fourth position, the artist appears accompanied by Justin Timberlake It is Timbaland in “4 Minutes”lead single from Hard Candy (2008), Madonna’s 11th album. Closing the top 5 is the absolute classic “Like a Prayer”which gives the name to the artist’s fourth album, released in 1989.
The list of 10 songs is completed by “Live to Tell”, “Like a Virgin”, “Frozen”, “It’s Yummy” – Madonna’s feat with Anita -, and by another version of “Frozen”.
According to Deezer, which is the official player for the The Celebration Tour In Brazil, 75% of the singer’s listeners are men and 25% are women. The artist is especially popular among audiences aged 26 to 55, and the cities that play the Queen of Pop the most are São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba and Recife.
