After the leak of Chitãozinho and Xororó’s show, Rock In Rio 2024 has confirmed an entire day dedicated to Brazilian music on September 21st. The festival will feature performances by artists of several Brazilian musical styles, including country music, samba, MPB, bossa nova, classical music, rap, trap and, yes, even national rock. The presentations will take place simultaneously on different stages.
Artists divided by musical genres
The artists will be divided into groups based on musical genre. Among the confirmed names are Chitãozinho and Xororó, Luan Santana, Simone Mendes in the country; Baianasystem, Carlinhos Brown, Daniela Mercury at MPB; Zeca Pagodinho, Alcione, Diogo Nogueira in samba; Capital Inicial, Detonautas, NX Zero in rock; Duda Beat, Glória Groove, Luísa Sonza in pop; Cabelinho, Felipe Ret, Matuê in the trap; Criolo, Djonga, Marcelo D2 in rap; Bossacucanova, Leila Pinheiro, Roberto Menescal in bossa nova; and Nathan Amaral, Youth Orchestra of the Brazilian Symphony of Classical Music.
The comment of the artistic vice-president of Rock in Rio
Zé Ricardo, artistic vice president of Rock in Rio, explained the decision to pay homage to various styles of Brazilian music. “The Rock in Rio campaign this year is Rock in Rio 40 years and forever. That’s why we decided to pay homage to various styles of Brazilian music. Styles that we believe have to do with the festival. And new styles that we’re with opening the door to enter the festival,” he said.
Roberto Medina and the attempt to “pull out the bubbles”
Roberto Medina, founder of Rock in Rio, said Brazil Day is an attempt to “get people out of their bubbles.” “We have to get out of the bubble we find ourselves in. Music unites people, unites those who are different. The thing that pushed me to take this attitude in celebrating 40 years was to look forward and not back. (…) It is through music that we can get these people out of their bubbles and make a gesture for a better world. The world is radical, where no one wants to listen to anyone, the brands and all of you.
