Trailer | The Beatles’ latest film gets a restored version for release on Disney+

Peter Jackson restored the official 1970 documentary, which had not been available to the public since 1980

Disney+ has released the trailer for “Let it Be”, a documentary about the recording of the Beatles’ final album, which has been out of circulation for 40 years. The streaming version will feature images restored by director Peter Jackson, who had access to all of the original footage files and created his own version of the records, released on streaming as “The Beatles: Get Back” series, in 2021.

After definitive recording material, Jackson concentrated on the original film, directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg (“Brideshead”) with filming at Abbey Road Studios from 2 January to 31 January 1969, originally for a television special focusing on the production of new Beatles album. However, the project underwent changes when “Let It Be” officially became the band’s last unreleased album.

After John, Paul, George and Ringo announced their separation, the documentary went straight to theaters, released in May 1970, highlighting the internal struggles and controversies that led the quartet to end their collaboration. In “Get Back”, Jackson showed that Lindsay-Hogg helped reflect the headlines of the group’s split, showing a very different version of the discarded scenes, with a lighter and funnier atmosphere, although he pointed out that, At one point, George Harrison even resigned from the band during the sessions.

The official film also takes up the historical scenes of the band’s famous last concert, held on the roof of Savile Row in London in front of a shocked audience, interrupted by police action.

Despite being a very famous film, “Let It Be” was not available in all video formats and unreleased for streaming, having only received a collector’s release in 1980.

The restored copy of “Let It Be” will be released on May 8th.
