Last Wednesday the band announced Eloy Casagrande as their new drummer
The band’s social networks Closing knot were flooded with comments from Brazilians celebrating the official assumption of the Eloy Casagrande as the new drummer of the group.
The official announcement was made last Wednesday, 1. The band’s official Instagram profile published a photo of the musician with a mask. “Slipknot welcomes Eloy Casagrande,” the caption reads.
The group’s North American fans are not happy with the “invasion” of comments in Portuguese. “It’s nice to have diversity in the band, but the Brazilians here are drowning out our voices,” one commented.
Despite the criticism, the post has more than 64,000 comments, most of which come from Brazilians. “I would like to thank Slipknot for believing in my son and welcoming him in such a noble way. I would like to thank all the people who were and are with us now and in these last decades,” wrote Lídia Casagrande, the drummer’s mother.
Eloy Casagrande Lopes, 33, became known as the drummer of Sepultura, the country’s most important heavy metal band, which he joined in 2011, at the age of 20.
Born in Santo André, São Paulo, Eloy began playing the drums at the age of 7 and, at 13, was the winner of the Batuka International Drum Fest. In 2005, a year after the award, he was also the winner of the Modern Drummer’s Undiscovered Drummer Contest.
Besides Sepultura, he was also a member of the bands Gloria and 2ois. Eloy was also part of the Catholic Christian rock band Iahweh and the backing band of singer André Matos, who died in 2019.
Casagrande is married to plastic surgeon Ariane Garcia.
