Free show? Fans pay up to R$1,000 to watch Madonna from the sea in Copacabana

In the companies consulted by Terra, the options range from private boats, for groups of up to 20 people, to parties on a schooner

On Saturday evening, the 4th, the forecast is that 1.5 million people will descend on the sand of Copacabana beach, in Rio de Janeiro, to attend the singer Madonna’s show without paying a cent. If this privilege wasn’t enough, other enthusiasts have decided to go further and create their own VIP area: the motorboats and the sea take on the feeling of a cabin, at prices close to R$ 1,000 per person.

In the companies consulted by Earthoptions range from private speedboats, for groups of up to 20 people, to parties on a larger boat, seating 40.

“I saw that, in fact, some companies started making announcements and I think it ended up spreading to everyone. This problem ended up emerging among people, who also started looking for companies,” says Rodrigo Costa, owner of WeBoat Brasil.

New Year’s scheme

Beach parties in Copacabana are nothing new for those who work in the boat rental industry. Bruno Ribeiro, director of TLN Aluguel de Barcos, says he has been working with prices similar to those on New Year’s Eve.

“The boat leaves inspected for Copacabana, by the Special Inspectorate, qualified sailor, all the infrastructure of the boat, sound system with Bluetooth and barbecue. If the customer wants to have a barbecue, the sailor prepares it without charging additional costs,” he explains.

Ribeiro says that, at the time of the interview for the Earth, was closing the pack for the last available boat in the fleet. But for those who didn’t have a private group, there were still the last seats on the schooner.

Tickets started to be sold in promotional lots at R$650, but closer to the event they reached R$950.

The Navy has established a special scheme

The Brazilian Navy (MB) reportedly set up a special program due to Madonna’s show. A part of the Copacabana seafront will be closed from midday on Saturday 4th until 4am on Sunday 5th, between places 1 and 5. Only controlled vessels will have access to the region.

During this period, the Port Authority of Rio de Janeiro (CPRJ) will inspect and monitor river traffic, with three patrol vessels and eight naval inspection vessels. The action also includes buoys that will delimit the perimeter of the prohibited maritime zone and the safety zone 200 meters from the beach, in which no vessel will be able to remain or sail.

To date, 262 ships have been inspected and approximately 76% of them have been approved and received a free pass. On the day of the show, however, they will be subjected to a new check, to verify the recovered material and compliance with the respective passenger capacity. Furthermore, drivers will be checked with their license and subjected to a breathalyzer.
