The RS government says there are no million-dollar donated photos from Madonna

Authorities clarify that there are no records of donations of R$10 million for rain victims in the state, despite rumors

The government of Rio Grande do Sul, through the State Secretariat for Communication (Secom RS), has reported that there are no donations in the name of the singer Madonna intended for flood victims in the state. The confirmation came after speculation circulated in the media last weekend, according to which the artist had made a contribution of R$10 million. The news was spread by columnist Erlan Bastos, who had the statement replicated exhaustively on the most diverse sites. He claimed to have received the information from a seemingly legitimate source, who did not contact any other journalists. Since Erlan continues to maintain that Madonna made the donation anonymously, Secom RS added that no donation of a value even remotely similar to that reported by the columnist has arrived.

Official donation channels

Secom RS reiterated that there are four official channels for donations, both national and international, intended for the population affected by the recent disasters. The campaign’s official website lists the most needed items right now and highlights the “SOS Rio Grande do Sul” account, which has a unique Pix key, linked to a Banrisul bank account. “The resources collected will be used entirely for humanitarian support for the victims and for the reconstruction of the infrastructure of the affected municipalities,” the government announced.

Transparency and security in donation

State authorities also underlined the importance of the official donation channel to centralize financial aid, offer security to donors and ensure transparency in the management of resources, which will be subject to controls and inspections by public authorities.

Madonna in Brazil and the economic effects

Madonna’s fee for the Copacabana beach show was $3.3 million (about R$17 million), as revealed by producer Bonus Track in a document to the Anita Mantuano Arts Foundation of the State of Rio de Janeiro ( Funarj). The free event, which had an audience of 1.6 million people and a total cost of R$59.9 million, had an economic return estimated by the municipality of Rio at R$300 million for the region, thanks to the high occupancy of the hotels.
