Madonna: journalist denies information about millionaire donation to RS and apologizes

Erlan Bastos posted a video with an errata, justifying that the information about Madonna’s donation of R$ 10 million to Rio Grande do Sul would have been mistaken in the investigation

Erlan Bastosthe journalist who reported that Madonna would have donated R$10 million to those affected by floods in Rio Grande do Sul, used social media to retract the incorrect information. In a video posted on social media this Thursday afternoon (9), the channel’s columnist In off apologized for the error in the investigation.

According to him, a donation of R$10 million was actually made by the bank that sponsored the singer’s show in Rio de Janeiro on May 4th.

“I came to recant and make an errata. I had reported that Madonna had donated R$10 million to Rio Grande do Sul, but, in fact, the person who made this donation was her sponsoring bank, Itaú, which was divided into two parts,” Bastos said in a video. [assista abaixo].

According to the columnist, the mistake was made by a source who passed on the information to him. Even so, he reinforced his responsibility for giving rise to fake news:

“My source got it mixed up, but I’m not going to blame the source. I was the one who announced this news. I apologize profusely for that. This error will make me improve my results,” she declared.

The errata came after the state of Rio Grande do Sul denied that it had received a donation from the singer. In a note, the Secom RS (Communication Secretariat of the State of Rio Grande do Sul) stated: “We had no record of this donation on the SOS Rio Grande do Sul pix”.

In a press release (via Band Entertainment), O Itaú confirmed the donation to the state, with R$5 million allocated to an airline initiative Blue; and another R$5 million through the non-governmental organization União Brasil.
