Singer Missinho, lead singer and founder of the Bahian band Chiclete com Banana, died this Thursday (16/5), in Salvador, Bahia, at the age of 64 due to multiple organ failure. The information was confirmed by the artist’s family.

At the beginning of May, Missinho was hospitalized for a kidney crisis at the Roberto Santos hospital, located in the capital of Bahia. The musician was hospitalized for 15 days, but her condition worsened due to diabetes. He had already been hospitalized for three months at the Lauro de Freitas Metropolitan Hospital and also at the Sagrada Família Hospital.

The band Chiclete com Banana regretted the departure of the former member: “His participation was of fundamental importance. He had space to show his talent, and he proved it. He brought us the need for authorship, he composed wonderful songs and played his instrument with great mastery,” he wrote on Instagram.

Who was Missinho?

Edmilson de Amorim Ferreira, known by the code name Missinho, was invited to join the group axé in 1980, when the name was still “Scorpius”. In the following years, the band exploded on the radio as Chiclete com Banana.

In the group he wrote several axé hits, such as “Mistério das Estrelas”, “Jamaica”, “Olhos da Noite”, “Tieta do Chiclete” and “Lua Menina”. The songs are still part of the repertoire of the band and Salvador’s electric trios today.

Despite the success, Missinho left the Bahian band in 1986, when he was replaced by Bell Marques on vocals. He also commented at the time that there had been a natural attrition among the musicians and said that he needed a change of scenery.

In an interview with g1 in 2015, the artist stated that he does not regret his decision to pursue a solo career, despite not achieving the same place in the music scene as he had achieved with the group axé.
