Seinfield’s Michael Richards reveals he had prostate cancer

‘I had to have complete surgery. If I hadn’t done it, I would probably be dead in about eight months’, said the actor about the diagnosis

The actor of Seinfeld (1989), michael richardsrevealed in a new interview that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer six years ago and that he underwent surgery to remove it before it became deadly.

Speaking to People before the publication of his memoir, Entrances and Exits (2024), Richards said he was diagnosed with stage 1 prostate cancer in 2018 after a routine exam. “I thought. Well, this is my time. I’m ready to go,” the actor said of the diagnosis.

But then my son came to mind a few seconds later, and I heard myself saying, ‘I have a 9-year-old son and I wish I was around to support him. Is there any way to get a little more life?’

While most cases of prostate cancer are manageable with increased monitoring and treatment, a biopsy revealed a more aggressive form that required surgery, which his doctor also recommended, the actor reported. “It had to be contained quickly,” he added. Richards. “I had to have complete surgery. If I hadn’t done that, I would probably be dead in about eight months.”

Out of a regular role since Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2009 — where he played himself and reprized Kramer — and some sporadic appearances on TV, Richards has remained out of the spotlight since his infamous 2006 incident at a comedy club where he was filmed hurling racist insults.
