Homeless people are having to move to other cities to make room for Taylor Swift fans who will be attending her concert in Edinburgh
With shows scheduled in Scotland between the 7th and 9th of June, Taylor Swift has caused a high demand for accommodation in the country’s capital, Edinburgh. As reported by BBCseveral homeless people are leaving the city to make room for the singer’s fans.
In Scotland, it is a legal obligation to provide temporary accommodation, such as a hotel, to anyone declared homeless. At Shelter Scotland, a charity, however, these people are being taken by taxi to Aberdeen and Glasgow to make room for fans of Swift.
Homeless families and tourists being forced to compete for the same accommodation is further evidence of @Edinburgh_CC and indeed most of Scotland’s #HousingEmergency.
Business as usual from @ScotGov won’t cut it. They need to deliver an emergency action plan, now! https://t.co/7PwdQKIXJT

A BBC (via NME), the director of Shelter Scotland, Alison Watsondeclared: “In Edinburgh, this emergency [de busca por hospedagens] gives rise to direct competition between homeless people and tourists, a blatant injustice”.
“Our frontline services are already seeing people who need a bed tonight being told their only option is to leave the city,” he continued. “A family experiencing the trauma of homelessness in Edinburgh should not have to travel miles away from their jobs, schools and community to find emergency shelter.”
