“Celebrating with a million people on a beach where they could be free to be themselves was incredible,” the Brazilian singer told Jay Shetty on his On Purpose podcast
In a detailed podcast interview On Purposein Jay Shetty, Anita recalled his participation in the show Madonna – and the partially conservative reaction of some Brazilian sectors.
“The show Madonna had 1.6 million people. It was historic,” he said. Anita The Shetty. “But also, her show had a lot of conservatives saying, ‘Oh my God, this is so… the devil.’ She is a woman who has dedicated her life to fighting for people’s rights – their sexualities, the LGBTQ community and for people to women be free to feel pleasure, because for a long time only men could feel pleasure.
Anita described the cultural importance of Madonna for queer people in her home country. “Celebrating with a million people on a beach where they were free to be themselves was incredible. Not just gays, but families accepting gays, lesbians and trans people,” said Anitta. “But a lot of conservatives were like, ‘Oh, she’s the devil, this is this, this is that’. I just feel like we can do whatever we want and we don’t have to judge. We’re all souls seeking evolution.”
At the end, Anita was just “happy to be there” with Madonna on stage after collaborating with her on the song “It’s Yummy” in 2019, highlight of the album Madame X.
“When she came to Brazil, the first thing she said was: ‘Okay, we have to do this’. Actually, I couldn’t at first, but then I changed a lot of things to be able to be there,” Anitta said on the podcast. “It was very important. She also invited Pablo Vittara very successful and famous drag queen and great singer from Brazil.”
Anita released his album Funk Generation– including tracks like “Double Team” with Bad Gyal, “FunkRave” It is “Ahi” with Sam Smith – on April 26th. “The album stands out when Anita takes risks, whether showcasing jigsaw beats or singing catchy lines over strange, harsh samples,” says a review fromRolling Stone about the album. “She has what it takes to lead the future of baile funk in pop and captivate audiences both in Brazil and around the world.”
