The channel Art and intelligence The YouTube channel has released two new Pink Floyd albums. But these are not unreleased recordings by the band or leftovers from classics like “The Dark Side of the Moon” or “The Wall”. Both works were entirely generated by artificial intelligence.
“All in All” and “The Third Kind” were made using ChatGPT for the lyrics and Udio for the music, vocals, instruments and sound effects. The result is impressive and can fool even the most unaware of the band’s fans. The clarity of David Gilmour’s voice, the timbres of the guitar and above all the groove of the song illuminate a wake-up call in the musical ecosystem and, in a certain sense, prove right all those who worry about the progress of AI in music.
Just look at the comments on the channel itself. With the exception of one or two who paid attention to some minor details, the vast majority praise the initiative and even say that the songs are better than much of the music produced today.
Advances in AI technologies in music have been widely discussed by musicians, producers and others involved in the production chain. On streaming platforms there are already hundreds of songs composed by AI and published under pseudonyms, which climb the most listened to charts.
On the other hand, artists from the pop universe such as Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and Camilla Cabello have recently signed a manifesto that invites digital music developers to “cease the use of artificial intelligence to violate and devalue rights of human artists.” . A battle still far from having a winner.
