The singer is fighting a legal battle after she was barred from traveling with her four children in February this year to the US
Simony was accused of assaulting a Delta Airlines employee in February at Orlando airport in the US. The accusation was made by the airline as part of a lawsuit brought by the singer herself, after she was prevented from boarding a flight to Brazil with her four children.
Earlier this year, the artist said she had a disagreement with an employee who served her last among passengers, even though she was in a wheelchair at the airport. The professional requested that her hand luggage be checked in, but she refused to do so, claiming that it contained drugs for bowel cancer treatment.
The argument quickly escalated, with the employee adopting a more aggressive tone and insisting on checking in, already placing the tickets in his luggage. Faced with the family’s refusal, he decided that none of them would board, ordering the flight to be closed. “I started to get nervous. I was in front of my children, in a wheelchair. Then he said to the boy who was pushing me: ‘Take her out now. None of them will travel,'” Simony reported.
At that moment, Simony got up from her chair to protest the employee’s attitude, but ended up fainting from the tension and had to be helped by her eldest son, Ryan Eduardo. The incident caused tears among the children, who worried about their mother’s health. After the episode, she requested compensation of R$55,300 for the treatment of the Delta employee.
The company’s response
On the other hand, Delta Airlines told the Brazilian court that Simony started screaming when she was informed that her belongings would be checked into the plane’s compartment due to excess baggage. The company also said the celebrity was asked to organize her medications in a single suitcase.
“Simony not only refused to follow instructions, but also behaved aggressively towards the employee, yelling, insulting her and physically assaulting her,” said Delta, which attached an internal report from the flight attendant to the lawsuit involved in the confusion.
“The passenger got up from the wheelchair and started yelling at me, causing a disturbance and started blaming me and grabbing my right arm. I thought she and her group were going to attack me, and I walked away because I needed for help. I immediately called the police, when the passenger grabbed me by the shoulder, pushed me against the wall, hurting my shoulder”, declared the employee.
False report
Simony denied the accusation, stated that the news was not true and assured that he had never attacked the airline employee. Lawyer Jamila Gomes, who represents her, stressed that the airport’s security cameras can prove that there was no assault.
“This episode never happened because it is not in the nature of the authors [Simony e familiares], also because Simony is currently undergoing cancer treatment. As everyone knows, this pathology makes its patients more introverted, tired from medications and, at times, weak, which is why the company required her to enter the boarding lounge using a wheelchair,” said Jamila .
The lawyer also reiterated that there was no plausible justification for preventing the flight to Brazil, forcing the family to remain in the United States without any support from the airline and demanding the purchase of new plane tickets.
The case has not yet been tried.
