Influencer and beautician Natalia Becker was indicted by the Civil Police for intentional homicide following the death of Henrique Chagas, aged 27, in her beauty clinic in the south zone of São Paulo. Chagas died on Monday, June 3, after undergoing a phenol peel. Natalia gave a statement at the 27th Police District, and the clinic was closed by the Municipal Health Surveillance.
The procedure, which is invasive, must be done by a specialist doctor and in a hospital environment due to the risks associated conditions, including cardiac arrhythmias. The police are awaiting test results to determine the cause of Chagas’ death, while Natalia’s defense believes it is unlikely that phenol was responsible.
What is phenol?
Phenol is a chemical substance used in aesthetic procedures such as phenol peeling to treat wrinkles and blemishes on the skin. This acid is highly corrosive and toxic, requiring careful application and monitoring in a controlled environment to avoid serious adverse reactions, such as cardiac arrhythmias. Therefore, the Brazilian Society of Dermatology recommends that the procedure be carried out in a hospital environment with medical supervision.
