22-year-old Spanish singer performs at Parque Ibirapuera this Sunday alongside Weezer and Bloc Party

The arrival of Judeline to Brazil this Sunday, November 2nd, at Parque Ibirapuera, in São Paulo, marks a special moment in the trajectory of the young Spanish artist. At 22 years old, she is part of the lineup at the INDIGOproject of 30e which brings together names like Weezer, Block Party and Mogwaiand brings with it a musical proposal that defies easy categorization. With flamenco influences, his Andalusian father’s Venezuelan ties and Arabic sounds, Judeline builds a sonic identity that moves between the familiar and the experimental.

In an exclusive conversation, Lara — as she prefers to be called — has revealed herself to be a restless artist, who admires those who can bother people with her music. “I see that I abuse autotune, which is not to many people’s taste, and I experiment with many genres”, he says, with the frankness of someone who continues to discover how far they can go. But there is a conscious balance in this equation. “In the end, it’s a song that’s a little easy on the ear. I think a much older lady might like it, or a teenager, or an 11-year-old girl. And that’s what I really like about the music that I make.”

The following confession, however, reveals the impulse that drives any truly creative artist: “But I would like to be crazier and suddenly no one likes the music; it could also be fun.” It is this tension between pleasing and breaking that makes Judeline an interesting promise of current indie pop.

His discography is still lean — the EP from the cross (2022) and the debut album Bodhiria (2024) —, but it has already won significant praise, including from Anita, Bad Bunny and ROSALÍA. The work also opened doors for her to join the world tour of J Balvin. Now songs like “Heavenly”, “silver zarcillos” and the partnership with the Puerto Rican producer Tainy, “if you ask for me”explore an aesthetic minimalism that translates into both the poetic lyrics and the singer’s striking visual presence.

When asked about her creative process, Judeline is straightforward: no romantic rituals or mystical inspiration. “I like writing in the studio, I don’t know any other way; it’s not going to the field and climbing a tree to connect with the root of the tree, and a lyric will emerge”, he jokes. For her, creation is discipline. “I like to be more disciplined and go to the studio as much as possible, connect with the music I’m listening to and spend hours there.” Even on days when inspiration doesn’t come naturally, she forces herself to be present.

But the music is only part of the story. Judeline He is deeply interested in the visual construction of his artistic universe. “I don’t know, I’m like… I imagine myself being a builder, a creative director, a painter”, she says, comparing herself to a game of Nintendo where it is possible to try multiple professions. “Tomorrow I’m painting and designing the set art I want for my next show. For now, I’m making the music. The next day, I’m planning what visuals I could do for a song.”

Among your aspirations, Rick Owens appears as a private obsession. “I’d like to make a kind of module for him. I’d like to use my face for whatever. I really like the things he makes, like the jewelry. I’m a big fan of his vision. Rick Owens“, he confesses. The wish list also includes working with Chanel and other big names in fashion, always with the certainty that these collaborations will come. “I think I’ll have the opportunity to work with a lot of them in the future. Or that’s something I’ve expressed, at least.”

The experience of playing at international festivals such as Coachella and opening shows for J Balvin brought valuable lessons. “It’s beautiful too, because when someone is used to having an audience that welcomes them very warmly in their homeland, and is already in their comfort zone, suddenly they find themselves in a place where no one knows them and they have to start again from scratch”, he reflects. For her, this alternation is stimulating. “One day I have the crazy audience, which is obviously the coolest, and another day I have four Swedish gentlemen who don’t know me at all. So, look, that’s fun, you know?”

About your connection with Brazil, Judeline shows special affection. In addition to collaboration with MC Morenashe promises surprises for the show at Ibirapuera. “I’m going to try to put on as beautiful a show as possible for Brazil. And bring special things, because it’s such an inspiring place.”

On Sunday, the Brazilian public will have the chance to meet live this artist who refuses easy labels, who turns creativity into a daily discipline and who, between the desire to please everyone and the desire to experiment without limits, builds music that is, above all, honest with herself. Judeline She arrives in Brazil as if she knows that she still has a long way to go, and that, for her, is exactly what makes everything so fun.
