Avicii’s father reflects on his son’s death: ‘I get angry with him sometimes’

Tim Berglingknown as Avicii, took his own life in April 2018, aged 28. The Swedish artist’s father, Klas Berglingreflected on his career and the impact of his son’s death in an interview with BBC (via NME): “I miss him every minute. Of course, I talk to him every day.”

“But, I admit, I get mad at him sometimes. Why did you do that? Why did you leave us?” The family of Avicii Last week, he launched a book of photos of the DJ: Avicii: The Life and Music of Tim Bergling.

Klas He also spoke about his son’s connection with his fans: “Tim meant a lot to young people — his music, his lyrics, his person. At first, I didn’t understand why, until a fan said: ‘Tim it was authentic’. I understood. Many young people identified with this authenticity, its honesty and its problems.”

Plans

The father of Avicii also has a 50-year plan to make suicide prevention part of his son’s legacy. Currently, the Tim Bergling Foundation works with the Swedish government to help with this issue.

Klas recalled a tribute show that placed suicide prevention as a political agenda: “We tried to bring in as many young people as possible, as well as politicians.”

“One of the most impactful moments was a large group of parents taking the stage, they had lost their children to suicide. It was a really powerful moment,” she added. “The most important thing is to break the stigma faced by young people. With an unstable, war-torn world facing the next generation, that’s where I think we can be useful.”
