Deadmau5 Threatens to Remove His Music from Spotify

The DJ and producer Deadmau5 threatened to remove his music from Spotify following comments from the platform’s CEO, Daniele Ekwho stated that the cost of content creation is “close to zero.”

Last week, the DJ posted a response to Ek’s comment on his Instagram. ““Wrong”it reads in the caption. “The cost of content creation has been over 25 years of my life and so much of that profit goes to your company, you are a complete idiot.”

The post received more than 38,000 likes and tons of comments. “We hate Spotify so much”said one follower, who responded by saying: “I feel it, I’m about to collect my catalog from these damn vultures, stop”.

It is worth mentioning that it currently has 5 million monthly listeners on the platform.

“I’ve been saying for a long time that we, as artists, artist managers, and major record labels, have allowed these multi-billion dollar companies to build platforms and businesses out of our art and our fans, and now we’re locked out,” Deadmau5’s manager, Dean Wilson, spoke to Billboard about royalties.

“So how much data do we get in return? The least they can give you. Ask me today, ‘How much do I get paid for every stream on Spotify?’ I don’t know. And that’s our job. It’s crazy, that’s our problem, and if you stream my record for more than 30 seconds today, I can’t tell you what happens,” finished.
