Attention! The following contains spoilers for the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Finale of the first season, “A Quality of Mercy”. Read at your own risk!
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds ended season 1 with possibly his best episode so far, like Captain Christopher Pike he learned what might have happened if he tried to avoid his terrible fate. Using a future version of himself and a Klingon Time Crystal, Pike traveled to the future and joined Paul Wesleythis is captain kirk in an adventure that must be very familiar COUGH Fans.
I spoke to the co-showrunner of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Henry Alonso-Myersabout Paul Wesley joining as “Captain” Kirk for a reimagined “What If” episode COUGH’ “Balance of Terror”, that other surprise appearance and any word about season 3. Buckle up, Paramount + subscribers because we have learned a lot!
How Paul Wesley’s Kirk reached the end of the season
Paul Wesley started Star Trek: Strange New Worlds in a way that some would not have expected: as a captain. Pike’s journey through the Klingon Time Crystal took him years into the future in a reality where Pike prevented the training incident that protected the lives of all cadets. Pike arrived in the future still captain of the Agency and, after a Romulan conflict, he joined the captain of the USS FarragutJames T. Kirk.
The episode essentially recreated the events of star Trek“Balance Of Terror” from, but this time Pike and Kirk worked in unison to resolve the tense situation with the Romulan ship. Henry Alonso Myers explained to Gossipify how Kirk made his way into the episode and the opportunity to take it that way:
It was very funny. The more we talked about the episode, the more Akiva and I realized we had the opportunity to confront these two captains and their styles. What better way to do this than to bring Kirk? We were hoping to find a story that we could involve young Kirk in at the end of the first season. It was one of our goals. It’s something Alex Kurtzman talked about when I first met him.
“A Quality Of Mercy” allowed the showrunners to show the collaboration of Captains Kirk and Pike, as well as seeing other side effects that occurred due to Pike’s survival. Pike, for example, stayed in Agency and Kirk took command of the farragut. We also saw that Pike’s hesitation inadvertently caused a new conflict with the Romulans that was so catastrophic that the Klingons wanted to kill Pike to prevent it from happening.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds fans got an added bonus of seeing Captain Kirk in action, but not in such a way in danger Mount Anson The role of Captain Pike . Henry Alonso Myers had previously told Gossipify that Paul Wesley’s Kirk will not be captain when he appears in the second season, adding in our last conversation that the Kirk season one finale is not representative of the Kirk we will meet. Myer said:
The Kirk we meet in Season 2 is a totally different person than the one we meet in the finale.
It was thrilling to see Paul Wesley as Captain Kirk fully realized, although I am definitely excited to see what it is all about. strange new worlds‘the present is like. The future looks bright now that Pike’s head is on its way, albeit a devastating self-sacrifice.
Because Scotty didn’t show up on camera
Paul Wesley’s appearance in Kirk was rather surprising, but not the only one Star Trek: Strange New Worlds‘Season 1 finale. During the correction of the Agency, Spock received instructions from an engineer on his communications who had a Scottish accent. Henry Alonso Myers confirmed that he was the one who pursued the hobby and explained why Scottish did not appear on the screen:
We weren’t quite ready to choose Scotty. So we released it as an easter egg for people.
The key word spoken by Henry Alonso Myers was “again”. Let’s not forget it with Hemmer’s recent death the Agency a chief engineer came out. It is possible that Scotty will reach the ship in the future, and possibly in the second season as well.
Will other characters from the original series appear?
With Scotty and Kirk in the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds At the end of the first season, you may be wondering what other characters might appear in the second or later. I candidly asked Henry Alonso Myers if the show intended to bring more legacy characters and got a pretty firm answer:
It’s our brand, right? I think it’s safe to say that yes, we will meet other legacy TOS characters in Strange New Worlds in the future.
This may seem like an obvious answer, but it’s exciting nonetheless. Other characters from the original star Trek will appear inside strange new worlds, presumably at a younger age than when we first saw them. There are still plenty of other TOS Bridge crew members to see, and given Captain Kirk’s redesign of the show, it’s hard to imagine a character being left out.
Is season 3 running?
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds just finished season 1 and season 2 production has already finished. With the two seasons ahead, I thought it was a good time to ask about the third season, especially after the actress. Melissa Navia I mentioned it in passing during a recent interview Henry Alonso Myers made it clear how things are going for the third season and whether it is officially happening or not:
We don’t have a truck. We plan it. The nature of these shows is that you just have to plan so, way, way ahead … To complete the scripts and build our AR sets and assets to match the results here in Star Trek: Strange. requires a lot of preparation time. We are at the first discussions on this topic. It’s definitely next … it’s the conversations we have.
The star Trek The show doesn’t have the official green light for season 3, but Henry Alonso Myers and the team are moving forward with construction as if it were going to happen. I’m not too surprised to hear that, given the response to season one and the make complaints that season 2 is even better. I hope they are right and we have even more promise for future episodes on the horizon.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 1 can now be streamed in its entirety to Paramount + (opens in a new tab) . Now the wait is here next big Emigrate show and all other shows coming to season 2.
