Baco Exu do Blues gives clues about new album and recalls Cannes award: ‘They didn’t take it seriously’

The musician released the EP ‘Fetiche’ last week and confirmed that he is finishing a new album

Five years ago, Bacchus Exu of the Blues won the Grand Prix of Cannes Lions – also known as Cannes Advertising Festival — for the short film Bluesmancreated to promote the homonymous album. The musician even surpassed Beyonce It is Jay-Zwho competed for the same award, in the Entertainment for Music category, with Apeshitfilmed at the Louvre Museum in Paris. The achievement was shared with Childish Gambinowho won with the music video for “This is America”.

“From the bottom of my heart, I can’t consider it a peak,” he confessed. Spleen in an interview with Rolling Stone Brazil. “I don’t think people took it very seriously at the time it happened — and it’s pretty crazy.”

The artist treats his projects like children, admitting that they are all important: “I have several children, right? And I love all my children. It was an EP that I made in three or four days, so it’s very difficult to consider it as a compilation. But I feel that they all have their importance and they all change people’s lives in some way.”

I feel like I’m always on the rise. QVVJFA? It was a stop that took me to a completely different place. [do Bluesman]. It is a very sensitive work, which changed the lives of many people. […] As long as I’m making music and adding something to people’s lives, I’ll feel at my best.

For Spleenthe peak, in fact, may be approaching with his new album, which is “already very advanced”. He did not detail the contents of the unreleased record, but said that “it’s kind of scary” to realize that he created “something pretty big”.

I think it’s the most absurd thing I’ve ever done, in fact, and it’s kind of scary. I’m not just saying that. Maybe this really is my peak, in everything — preparation, sensitivity, pen, themes… I’m very proud and still a little scared about where we’re going, because it’s a pretty big deal. That’s all I can say for now. There are some things to edit, some things to finish, but it’s already very advanced — I can say that with confidence.
