The rapper faces accusations from producers who claim her beat “Greasy Frybread” was copied and used without permission
Cardi B is being sued for alleged plagiarism in her song “Enough (Miami)”, released in March of this year. Producers Joshua Fraustro and Miguel Aguilar, known as Kemika1956, claim that the rapper copied and used the beat from their song “Greasy Frybread” without permission. The case was filed on Wednesday (7/3) in the District Court of Texas.
Music exploded in series
“Greasy Frybread” gained prominence after appearing on the FX series “Reservation Dogs,” which features verses from Indigenous rapper Sten Joddi. The song, released in 2021, is now at the center of a lawsuit, which also includes Cardi B’s producers James D. Steed (DJ Swanqo) and Joshua Parker (OG Parker), as well as record labels Atlantic Records, a celebrity booking agency, and Warner Music Group.
Response from representatives
So far, representatives for Cardi B and Atlantic Records have not commented on the lawsuit. Fraustro and Aguilar are seeking damages for copyright infringement, unfair competition and misappropriation.
Successful career
“Enough (Miami)” is Cardi B’s second single this year, following her appearance on Shakira’s “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.” Cardi hasn’t released a full-length album since 2018’s “Invasion of Privacy,” which made her the first female rapper to win the Grammy for Best Rap Album. Even without new albums, Cardi continues to rack up commercial success, thanks to partnerships like “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion and “Put It On Da Floor Again” with Latto.
