The long-awaited end Strange things Season 4 finally released , and it didn’t quite end with the heroes’ victory. They lost one of them forever with Eddie’s death, but fans can at least take comfort in the fact that he played a key – and very metallic – role in the attempt to kill Vecna. He shattered Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” in Upside Down in one of the season’s most memorable sequences, and actor Joseph Quinn explained why he initially thought the scene might not work.
Eddie smashing his guitar in Upside Down was first revealed in a trailer, but those trailer previews didn’t do the final product justice. Although the heroes failed to kill Vecna, the Demo Bats would likely have killed Nancy, Steve, and Robin if it weren’t for Eddie’s musical distraction. Plus, the whole sequence would have been a lot less epic without “Master of Puppets” being on it! When I spoke to Joseph Quinn about the scene, he explained his first reaction to me and thought it wouldn’t work:
I just remember thinking, ‘Yes, you did!’ I remember thinking it was a smart and brilliant concept, and it shouldn’t have worked on a TV show, but it did. Feels so good about it. I remember feeling some responsibility, you know, to try to make it look good. But I remember thinking, “Oh, that’s really weird. It will be a lot of fun.
There is no doubt that Joseph Quinn is right that the “Puppet Master” sequence wouldn’t work in most TV shows, but Strange things He did it so well that Metallica actually did said he was “completely blown away” and that it was “very well done”. If the band themselves signs a science fiction show using their song to lure killer creatures into another dimension, can anyone say it didn’t work?
The fact that the actor felt the “responsibility” to make the moment beautiful was certainly worth it, as Eddie Munson filling Metallica on Upside Down is already one of the most talked about parts of the second volume of season 4. Also , as this happens before the demo bats grab Eddie and before Vecna kills Max (though Eleven brings her back), it’s one of the least tragic and least horrific sequences of flight. 2. What is not love? Dustin loved it until they had to hide from the bats.
All in all, it’s safe to say that Eddie performing on “Master of Puppets” will be remembered as one of the best musical moments of the entire series no matter what happens in season 5. Sadly, Eddie didn’t survive much longer after his epic stop on top of the Upside Down trailer with his guitar, as he survived the demo bat attack long enough to die between Dustin’s arms and complete theirs like a dynamic duo . According to Quinn, Eddie’s death it was actually “strange” that he and Gaten Matarazzo filmed .
Unfortunately for fans who were hoping he would return, death will remain. The Duffer brothers have already done this disproved theories that Eddie somehow survived , confirming that season 4 was the end of his road for him. (And for the Brenner, but who really cries the Brenner?)
Season 4 came to a rather unfortunate ending for the heroes, as Max’s cardiac arrest was enough to count as Vecna’s fourth death, despite Eleven restarting. Vecna may be the greatest evil of all Strange things wicked, and actor Jamie Campbell Bower spoke to Gossipify about preparing for the role without the disguise.
Season 5 is well on its way to revealing the aftermath of Eddie’s death, Max’s ambiguous fate and Vecna’s victory, though there are no details on when exactly that will happen.
