Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist sued after running over and killing man

Josh Klinghoffer, who left the band in 2019, ran over and killed 47-year-old Israel Sanchez in March

Josh Klinghoffer was prosecuted after running over Israel Sancheza pedestrian who was walking along the sidewalk towards the market, in Alhambra, California. The new complaint arrived at the Los Angeles court last Wednesday, the 10th.

According to the document obtained by Peoplethe daughter of Sanchez, Ashleyclaims that Klinghoffer was “driving distracted” and “using a device seconds before” hitting his 47-year-old father while making a left-hand turn. The tragedy occurred on March 18.

According to the lawsuit, the guitarist “did not brake or slow down after” hitting Sanchezwho was “thrown and/or dragged across the asphalt” and suffered internal bleeding in the head. He was taken to the hospital, but died about two and a half hours later.

Video obtained by People shows a black GMC Yukon hitting Sanchez without slowing down. The car then stopped, and a man got out. A photo also obtained by the American outlet shows Klinghoffer holding a cell phone just before the accident.

Purpose of the process

Documents state that no arrests have been made and that the musician has not contacted the family. Sanchezdid not even “show remorse for his behavior.”

Ashley seeks a jury trial and payment of expenses such as funeral, burial, medication, attorney fees and pain relief for the loss of his father’s “love, companionship, comfort, care, assistance, protection, affection, moral support.”

“My father was known as a great boss, the most talented in his family, the best grandfather, always full of love and joy,” his daughter said. “His smile was so contagious. His life was taken by an act of a careless person who didn’t care to look where he was driving.”

Career in the Red Hot Chili Peppers

Josh Klinghoffer joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2009, after John Frusciante leave the band. He was fired in 2019, when Frusciante returned. With the group, he recorded the albums I’m With You (2011) and The Getaway (2016). Currently, Klinghoffer is on tour with the Pearl Jam.
