Last Friday (12), the National Funk Day in Brazil. Numerous initiatives marked the day.
It all started with the proposal (PL 2.229/2021) presented in 2021 by Alexandre Padilha (PT-SP) and approved by the Education and Culture Committee.
“The establishment of a national day to celebrate funk culture means the institutionalization of a space to discuss public policies that can meet the demands of communities where the movement is strongest, generates income and offers the population a chance for recreation”said the MP justifying the project.
It is worth mentioning that genre is very important on YouTube, the platform has become one of the main channels for promoting music videos and songs.
KondZilla channel produces several artists and has over 67 million subscribers. Its most viewed clip is Boom Boom Tam Tamby MC Fioti, with 1.8 billion views, part of YouTube’s Billion Views Club, which brings together clips that have surpassed the threshold of one billion views.
Another phenomenon that emerged from funk is Anita. The singer has conquered international lands and has performed with several artists, such as in her single Go Malandrafeaturing Mc Zaac, Maejorm Tropkillaz and DJ Yuri Martins, which has been viewed over 453 million times. The clip isn’t the only one with millions of views. Trojan Horse by MC Kevin, from the GR6 Explode channel, is also one of the examples of the strength of national funk, with over 533 million views.
It is worth remembering that in São Paulo, Funk Day is celebrated on July 7, in honor of MC Daleste who was murdered during a popular show in Campinas in 2013.
“Brazil is one of the countries that uses Shorts the most, which means that our culture can expand and conquer the entire world. Funk is a contagious rhythm and ends up working as a universal language: the entire world feels invited to reproduce steps or participate in trends and share them in short videos on YouTube”, says Marianna Ribeiro, YouTube’s shorts trends manager.
Anitta performed in Romania last Friday (12) and shared videos of the show via Instagram stories. She wanted to mention the commemorative date, showing her dance moves.
“Point of View: Celebrate National Funk Day with me”he wrote in English.
It is worth noting that the Museu das Favelas, in São Paulo, hosts the exhibition Funkeiros Cults with free admission.
